National Team

CONGRATULATIONS to the young members of Benoits who recently qualified for the Canadian National Team. They raised the bar from Provincal competition and are moving on to National competition. These students are wonderful role models to others and show what can be accomplished through dedication, goal setting and hard work. Congratulations go out to Rebecca, Justin, Trevor, Christian, Mia and Catherine. These students will go on to represent Canada and compete in July, 2009 at the Nationals in Calgary, Alberta. Best Wishes to these inspiring teens.

CONGRATULATIONS TO JUSTIN LANTEIGNE -- SUDBURY SPORTS HALL OF FAME 2009

AMATEUR MALE ATHLETE OF THE YEAR JUSTIN LANTEIGNE (Karate) Last September Justin captured a gold medal in the Kata Division at the 2008 Junior Pan American Games in Santiago, Chile. He was the first Ontarian to win a gold medal in that division.
The 17 year old black belt has been competing in karate for close to 10 years.
A student at Lockerby Composite School, his other past successes have included winning the World Karate Association's World Team Championships in Kata in 2005, 2006 and 2007, as well as Traditional Kata in 2006, the National Black Belt League's World Championships in Traditional Kata in 2007 and 2008 as well as silver and bronze medals at the Canadian Championships.
In January he captured a gold medal in Traditional Weapons at the 2009 National Black Belt League event held in Sacramento, California. Justin who trains at Benoit's Goju Ryu Karate Do, achieved his black belt in 2004 at the age of 12.
Justin was presented with the award at the House of Kin's 41st Sports Celebrity Dinner Awards 2009 held at the Caruso Club, Sudbury on Wednesday, June 10th.
