Shihan Yabunaka 2006/06/07

Shihan Yabunaka Seminar at Benoit's - 2006/06/07

Shihan Yabunaka presented a seminar at Benoit's for green belts and up from ages 12yrs and above. The seminar was well attended and enjoyed by the participants. Shihan Yabunaka's martial arts journey has brought a unique perspective to his style of Karate. Martial artists are all on different paths to being better martial artis and better people, they just take different paths getting there. There is a great appreciation for the training achieved travelling down the Benoit path of martial arts and a great deal of respect for the path forged by Shihan Yabunaka. We hope Shihan Yabunaka visits again as he is always welcomed at Benoit's.

Sensei Steve's Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu - 2005/07

Sensei Steve demonstrating with Sensei Lee

Sensei Steve Jonkas, is a Benoit alumni who lives in the Ottawa area where he took up the Gracie style of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. While visiting family in Sudbury for a few weeks in July, Steve got an opportunity to catch up with Shihan and share some of his new knowledge with the students. Steve focused on some of the basics ,for ground fighting. The positions at first looked, well, embarrassing and awkward. Once the students got the hang of it, these once uncomfortable positions proved highly effective for gaining control on the ground. Everyone seemed to have a good time and were impressed with techniques they learned. Sensei Steve is welcomed back anytime.
Steve taught many youth and adult classes as well as the Brown/Black Belt class. Comments from the students were very positive and often filled with entertaining descriptions of their experiences.

Shihan Bob Kranstz, 7th Dan of the Milton School of Jiu-Jitsu honoured Benoit's with a Self-Defence Seminar, April 02, 2005.
We had twenty enthusiastic participants attend the seminar which was proclaimed to be one of the best seminars hosted by Benoit's in some time. Comments from the participants were very positive.

Shihan Kranstz is the founder of CJA (Combined Jiu-Jitsu Arts) style of Jiu-Jitsu and is a former three time (Senior division over 40) World Champion. The style of Jiu-Jitsu he teaches has its roots in the old Kodenkan style, which was altered and improved on by Kranstz's Sensei, Shihan Ronald Forrester. Bob Kranstz then added further changes, incorporating grappling techniques from his Judo background, techniques from Hako Ryu style of Kyoshi Michael LaMonica, from Shihan Alain Sailly's Goshindo, and from Kyoshi John Theriens's CanRyu style, as well as many other techniques from Masters from around the world.
